Environmental Awareness Activity on the Occasion of World Environment Day
As part of its efforts to raise community awareness of environmental issues and climate change, the National Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights organized an awareness-raising activity to mark World Environment Day, coinciding with Egypt’s hosting of COP27. The Foundation launched a youth competition on climate change as part of the Knowledge for All project, which aims to activate the services of the Shajarat Maryam Library.
The activity was implemented with the support and funding of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). It aimed to encourage young people to conduct research, expand their knowledge, and participate actively, while strengthening their role in promoting environmental awareness within their communities.
The competition also focused on promoting positive environmental practices, such as tree planting, rooftop gardening, water conservation, and protecting natural resources from pollution.
The National Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights implemented a series of awareness-raising seminars on the impact of climate change on public health as part of the activities of the Youth Employment Project to Address the Root Causes of Irregular Migration.
The seminars were based on the understanding that climate change is one of the indirect factors affecting livelihoods and increasing economic and social pressures, which may lead some young people to consider irregular migration.
Awareness Campaigns on Water Conservation and Water Security in Egypt
The National Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights implemented a series of awareness campaigns and seminars targeting girls, women, and homemakers to promote awareness of the importance of rational water consumption and the conservation of water resources, coinciding with World Water Day.
The activities focused on promoting a culture of responsible water use and raising awareness of the challenges facing water security in Egypt amid climate change, including the resulting increased pressure on natural resources and the growing risks of water scarcity.
The Foundation also worked to strengthen awareness of the close relationship between environmental protection and the sustainable management of water resources. It encouraged families to adopt environmentally friendly practices and behaviors that contribute to reducing water consumption, limiting pollution, and supporting efforts to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
Recognizing the importance of knowledge in supporting informed decision-making, the Foundation prepared a documentation report on the state of water resources in Egypt. The report reviewed the key environmental and climate-related challenges affecting water security and highlighted the importance of sound natural resource management as a fundamental pillar for achieving environmental sustainability and strengthening communities’ capacity to address climate challenges.
Awareness Seminar on Household Plumbing Maintenance and Water Conservation
The National Foundation for Peace, Development and Human Rights, in cooperation with the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater and the Social Solidarity Directorate, organized an awareness-raising seminar targeting women and homemakers on the importance of regular maintenance of household plumbing fixtures and its role in reducing water waste and conserving water resources.
The seminar focused on raising awareness of the importance of early detection and repair of water leaks and adopting responsible water-use practices. These measures have a direct impact on reducing water losses, lowering consumption, protecting the environment, and supporting the state’s efforts to strengthen water security and adapt to climate change.
The seminar also emphasized that simple household maintenance is one of the practical and effective solutions for conserving this vital resource. It helps reduce water waste in homes and improve water-use efficiency.
The seminar was held as part of the corporate social responsibility efforts of the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater, demonstrating effective cooperation between state institutions and civil society organizations in promoting a culture of natural resource conservation and strengthening environmental awareness.
The event concluded with the distribution of in-kind gifts, consisting of kitchen mats, to the participating women. This gesture aimed to encourage them to adopt positive practices and share awareness messages with their families and communities, thereby reinforcing the role of women as key partners in environmental protection and the achievement of sustainable development.
